Alcura Health Spain, a pharmaceutical distributor specializing in clinical trial logistics management and part of Alliance Healthcare, has accelerated its growth in Spain and established itself as the group's Clinical Trials Center of Excellence. Specifically, in 2022, Alcura Health Spain conducted a total of 823 clinical trials of various types, including clinical phases I-III and post-commercialization. The number of trials the company participated in during 2022 is 241% higher than in 2021, when it conducted 341 trials. It is expected that in 2023, the number of clinical trials will continue to increase in double digits, growing in volume and complexity of the projects undertaken from Spain. 

Over the past three years, Alcura Health Spain's revenues have grown annually by between 20% and 30% compared to the previous years. This growth is mainly due to an increase in international agreements with major pharmaceutical companies and CROs, as well as a strategic commitment by Alliance Healthcare and AmerisourceBergen to position their operational center in Viladecans (Barcelona) as the group's Clinical Trials Center of Excellence. In general terms, Alcura has been able to align its capabilities with the evolution of the global clinical trials market. 

In this regard, Josep Oriol Nicolás, Director of Strategic Development at Alcura Health Spain, emphasized that “At Alcura, we are following the main market trends and continuously proposing innovative solutions for clients and partners, such as conducting clinical trials closely related to advanced therapies, personalized medicine, or the digitization and application of AI tools, among other innovations.” 

37% Increase in Infrastructure Investment 

In the last 5 years, Alcura Health Spain's investment in infrastructure has increased by 37%. During this period, one of the most notable investments has been the launch of new facilities in Viladecans (Barcelona), which occupy an area of 3,500 m² dedicated entirely to Clinical Trials activities. These facilities include storage zones ranging from 2ºC to 8ºC, -20ºC, and -80ºC, as well as -196ºC (liquid nitrogen) for gene and cell therapy products. 

It should be noted that Alcura's facilities coexist with other business units of Alliance Healthcare in Viladecans, totaling an area of 22,300 m².

Additionally, the increase in business volume has been accompanied by the growth of Alcura's team in Spain, closing the 2022 fiscal year with a team of 78 people, a 50% increase over the previous year. Thus, in the last 3 years, Alcura has increased the number of employees by more than 55 people, as in 2019, the team consisted of a total of 22 employees.
